Table Tennis Enthusiasts...
The GBTTC is a not-for-profit sports club that counts among its recent membership people ranging in age from their mid-teens to mid-seventies. Some of us are retired or semi-retired professionals who once worked as schoolteachers, engineers, and architects. Some are full-time students. Others have full-time day jobs or professional careers and are involved in table tennis only in their spare time—such as it is. We have one player originally from Bulgaria, one from Thailand, several from the People’s Republic of China, one from Korea, one from Germany, another from Malaysia, a couple from India, and even one university doctoral student from Japan. Considering the small size of our membership, we have surprising diversity. Many people find this diversity one of the most attractive facets of our sport. As for skill level, we run the gamut from developing players to one person rated Number 40 in the US about three years ago.
Our club has existed in various locales in metropolitan Buffalo for over forty-five years—with the exception of one or two relatively short periods during which we had to fold temporarily for lack of space in which to play. Although we numbered approximately twenty annual members in 2008, our club is one of hundreds throughout the United States that is affiliated with a larger national organization known as United States of America Table Tennis. Any work performed for the GBTTC by its members is purely voluntary and without remuneration. If you are uncertain whether or not club membership is for you, visit us during our scheduled nights. If you visit, we ask that you observe the same rules of conduct as our players.
You now can support our club when you purchase table tennis equipment. Select ("click on") this link to Table Tennis Pioneers. If you visit their site via the preceding link and subsequently purchase something, the GBTTC will receive a small percentage of the sale. Thank you.
